An inspirational and truly dedicated servant of the lord, David Brainerd endured hardship after hardship while maintaining a singularly devoted heart and mind for God. Not only did his faith remain true and steadfast, but his determination to bring God’s light to others provided an even greater element of encouragement even to the pastors and missionaries working alongside him. Traveling thousands of miles and struggling with illness and physical hardships, Brainerd brought the word of God to remote Native Americans despite the many limitations of his day and of his own health and wellbeing.

While preparing to be a minister, Jonathan Edwards penned 70 resolutions that would guide him in the years to come. About 20 years later, he wrote a letter to a young convert named Deborah Hatheway, who had asked for advice on living the Christian life. These two short works, where have been often reprinted and referred to in the several centuries that followed, are literally overflowing with straightforward, Bible-based advice. The thoughts and advice of Jonathan Edwards are as current today as they was in the 1700's.

While the idea that God created the world for His glory may seem obvious to some and perhaps confusing to others, Jonathan Edwards describes this beautiful premise with Scriptural evidence and in a completely revelatory way. In detailing not only the nature of God, but also of creation, humans, and individual will, Edwards shows that God’s purpose of bringing Himself glory works also, ultimately, for the fulfillment of all creation’s joy.

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is a classic sermon by Jonathan Edwards, first delivered in Massachusetts in 1741. This rendition is beautifully narrated by John Potter.

Jonathan Edwards, often referred to as America’s greatest theologian, lived from 1703-1758, and was used by God in the American Great Awakening. This sermon is taken from Romans 3:19, “That every mouth may be stopped.” Edwards carefully and methodically showed that God is perfectly just to punish sinners. He began with God’s infinite majesty, then showed man’s infinite guilt, made many applications, answered objections, and ended with words of encouragement to both the guilty sinner and the forgiven saint.
