Heinz Sührig (1925-2004) meldete sich freiwillig mit 17 zur Deutschen Kriegsmarine. Er war der jüngste an Bord von U968. An seinem 20.Geburtstag erblindete er infolge einer Explosion in der Zentrale des U-Bootes. Weil er sich aus seinem Haus ausgeschlossen hat, macht sich der Kriegsblinde erstmals nach 40 Jahren allein mit seinem Stöckchen auf den Weg ins 2km entfernte Stadtzentrum seiner Geburts-und Heimatstadt Osterode am Harz. Auf dem Weg erscheinen Menschen vor seinem geistige Auge, die ihm als Sehendem in Kindheit, Schule, Jugend und später als Blindem begegneten.

Das Markenzeichen der Autorin Rita J. Sührig - Diplomtheologin, Lektorin und "Zertifizierte Bibelerzählerin" mit Auftritten auf Bibel-TV: Sie schlüpft in die Rolle des jeweiligen Protagonisten und vermittelt dem Zuhörenden das Gefühl, das Ereignis fände unmittelbar im Hier und Heute statt. Auch die Sozialgeschichte lässt sie einfließen. Es gibt kein "Es war einmal" und auch die Moral am Schluss fehlt. Vielmehr möchte sie anregen zu eigenem Nachdenken und vielleicht auch Nachlesen des biblischen Textes.

It was not really easy to go to school. By 1988 to 1989, I graduated from what is known as secondary school, then trying to either further with college or another institute of higher learning in the years 1990 to 1991, but I was told it would not be possible at all.
