From Boston to Liverpool in a little over four hours? Jules Verne tells us how it might be done.

The Mysterious Island was published in 1874, and it is one of Verne's longest novels. The plot depicts a group of men who have become castaways stranded on an island in the Pacific during the American Civil War. The novel describes their attempts not only to survive but also, with the aid of the scientific and technological know-how, to rebuild their world from the meager resources of the island. At the end, however, it is realized that Captain Nemo, from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, has secretly been helping the settlers.

Ein wichtiges Telegramm muss von Moskau nach Sibirien - und überbringen soll es der junge Offizier Michael Strogoff. Er soll den Bruder des Zaren vor dem Verräter Iwan Ogareff warnen. Getarnt als Tuchhändler begibt sich Strogoff auf eine lange und gefährliche Reise, die ihn in die Weiten des russischen Zarenreichs führt. Wenn es nach dem Vater von Jules Verne gegangen wäre, hätte es diesen Roman von 1876 nie gegeben. Doch statt die väterliche Anwaltskanzlei zu übernehmen, wurde Jules Verne lieber Schriftsteller.

Der englische Gentleman Philias Fogg wettet mit anderen Mitgliedern seines Clubs, dass er es schafft, in 80 Tagen um die Welt zu reisen. Gleich an diesem Abend begibt er sich mit seinem Diener Passepartout auf eine weite Reise um die Welt.

L'isola misteriosa (L'Île mystérieuse) fu pubblicato nel 1874, e costituisce il terzo e ultimo capitolo di una trilogia iniziata con I figli del Capitano Grant e Ventimila leghe sotto i mari. Per questo vi si ritrovano alcuni personaggi dei due capitoli precedenti e allusioni alle vicende in essi narrate, primo fra tutti il Capitano Nemo.Il libro racconta le avventure di un gruppo di americani naufragati su un'isola del Sud Pacifico non segnata sulle mappe. L'"isola misteriosa" sulla quale la storia è ambientata (un'isola fittizia ipoteticamente situata nell'Oceano pacifico) può anche essere un riferimento alla vera isola di Lincoln.

Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island is an epic adventure story that takes place during the American Civil War era. As a sequel to Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the novel beings with a group of characters who must band together to survive after they escape imprisonment during the war by stealing a giant air balloon. As fate would have it, they get lost in a storm and crash land on an unknown island somewhere around New Zealand.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a classic in which Verne prophesized many modern uses of the submarine. The story concerns the now famous fictional character Captain Nemo and his submarine, Nautilus, as seen by one of his passengers, Professor Pierre Aronnax. Over the years there have been many film, TV, and theatrical adaptations and variations of the book.

VOLUME 2: We now come to the second part of our journey under the sea. The first ended with the moving scene in the coral cemetery which left such a deep impression on my mind. Thus, in the midst of this great sea, Captain Nemo's life was passing, even to his grave, which he had prepared in one of its deepest abysses.
