E. Hoffman Price, during Lovecraft's visit to his home in New Orleans in June 1931, tried to persuade the Providence writer to create a continuation of Randolph Carter's adventures after the character disappears in the story "The Silver Key." HPL refused to be persuaded, so Price himself, without permission, created a text titled "The Lord of Illusion" in August. He sent the result to Lovecraft, hoping that he would agree to edit the work.

Story about a scientist who discovers a deadly species of fly in Africa and wishes to use it for the elimination of an adversary. He disregards the superstitions of the Africans who believe that the soul of the one killed by this "devilish fly" enters the body of the insect.

In May 1931, Lovecraft visited the town of Dunedin, where his acquaintance, Henry St. Clair Whitehead, lived. It was during this time or shortly thereafter that he assisted him with "The Trap." About three-quarters of the story is the work of the writer from Providence—compact sentences at some point transform into elaborate, descriptive paragraphs entirely in the style of Lovecraft. HPL also admits at some point that he enriched the work with the main theme.

The unlucky traveler loses his way and ends up at a dilapidated estate. The owner of the property tells him the story of when, in his youth, he brought his wife back from a trip to France. The woman brought ruin to the household and its residents. No one knew what she truly was.

This is a typical horror story featuring classic elements like ghosts, a secluded house in a desolate area, and werewolves. Initially rejected by "Weird Tales," the story was eventually accepted after revisions. Lovecraft emulated Eddy's writing style in parts, making it challenging to distinguish their contributions.

The tale of a necrophiliac whose preferences are not understood by the owners of successive funeral homes employing him.

The story of Walter Delapore, a descendant of the Poers (the similarity to the name Poe is not accidental), a family that inhabited the Exham Priory estate. It is said that the building was constructed on very ancient foundations predating the Roman conquest of England. Delapore moves into the restored mansion, changing his name to de la Poer. He is not welcomed in the area; his ancestors had a reputation as murderers, kidnappers, and sorcerers. Since moving into the building, de la Poer has heard strange noises within the walls, which drive his cats into a frenzy.

The main character lost three basic senses and the ability to use their legs during the war. Subconsciously, they feel a malevolent presence in their home and document their experiences on a typewriter.
