Audio Journeys by Travel Radio International explores Quebec City, Quebec, in early February during its annual Winter Carnival - the largest winter carnival in the world. Before the Carnival begins on the weekend, we have time to find out about some of Quebec's history at the Museum of Civilization. Francois Tremblay, the director of exhibitions, meets us in the lobby of this very large, state-of-the-art, award-winning museum complex.

Audio Journeys is at the annual Oostende sailing ship festival on the old freight docks of this once very busy seaport.

In the seaport town of Oostende on the last weekend in May, one of the world's largest sailing-ship festivals is held. There are many ships to explore and much activity when we arrive on the docks of Oostende; announcers, marching bands, and battle-ship reenactments fill our senses. The first person we meet is a musketeer and one of the Festival's organizers.

Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated as he was leaving the Lorraine Motel in Memphis Tennessee to join the city's sanitation workers' striking for better working conditions and pay.

Its sugar bush time in the maple tree forests of Canada. In March and April the sap from the maple trees flow. This thin sticky sap becomes one of Canada's most popular exports, maple syrup. Audio Journeys are on the Kings Road east of Quebec City exploring a sugar stack that welcomes visitors year round to their outdoor recreation center. We visit the only Ice Hotel in North America - a chilling experience.

Refuges, engineered by humans for the benefit of birds, attract birds that would otherwise be harmed by cities, agriculture, and industry. There is a National Wildlife Refuge within a one-hour drive of most major U.S. cities.

Audio Journeys by Travel Radio International explores the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area at the base of the Cascade and Klamath mountain ranges. At Whiskeytown, a few miles west of Redding, California, we meet naturalist guide Steve Zachary. Zachary is dedicating his life to preserving the web of life on earth. His life's work includes learning about, and then teaching others of all ages about, how to protect the web through education and legislation.

Today, Clarkson is one of the world's leading electrical engineering universities. Nanotechnology is being developed and studied there.

Audio Journeys by Travel Radio International explores the countryside near Muenster, including a 300-year-old Westphalia village that has been reconstructed. Houses, barns, buildings, and artifacts from the time make it seem as if people will be returning from their fields soon.

Outside of Muenster, we visit a unique project: a biotope, an important sanctuary for hundreds of thousands of birds. We enter a bird blind with Dr. Hans Schutz, the man in charge of the biotope.

Audio Journeys by Travel Radio International explores the 2,000-year-old Roman city of Trier, Germany. With our Historic Highlights of Germany guide, we walk through a garden with a beautiful water fountain,to the ruins of a large Roman thermal bath complex that built by order of the Emperor Constantine in the third century. It was never finished, but today it is a tourist destination and a stage for live theater.

Audio Journeys by Travel Radio International explores one of the wildest towns in the West. At the end of a box canyon, near precious metal deposits, Deadwood lured such famous Old West characters as Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Deadwood might have been torn down and forgotten, except that it also holds the distinction of being the town where an angry assailant killed Wild Bill Hickok while he was on his honeymoon.

Audio Journeys are exploring the ancient ruins of a Mayan village in El Salvador. Twenty kilometers northwest of San Salvador the capital of El Salvador is the 650 year old village of Joya de Ceren, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in El Salvador. What makes this site very unique is that the everyday life of the Mayans was preserved when around 600 A.D. a volcano erupted spewing volcanic ashes that covered the land, caused the common people to flee their homes.

Audio Journeys explores a small patch of some of the Republic of El Salvador's last remaining rainforests. Fifty spider monkeys live in the canopy of 300-year-old trees. The spider monkeys are protected as long as they stay in this very small area, known as the Chaguantique Nature Reserve.

This important private reserve is maintained by El Salvador's ministry of Natural Resources.
