يختبيء "أحمد" لدى رفيقٍ له في مكانٍ مهجور بسبب ملاحقته من قبل العسكر لكنَّ وضعه يُصبح سيئًا عندما يتعرَّض لعضّة كلب فيناقش رفاق الحزب احتمالات مرضه وعلاجه واعتقاله لكنّهم يقررون في النهاية إقامة الحجر الصحي عليه لمدّة أربعين يومًا للتأكّد من عدم إصابته بداء الكلَب، لذلك يبقى أحمد حبيس غرفته طول تلك الفترة فيلجأ إلى رسم خطٍّ على الباب في كلِّ يومٍ ينقضي مسترجعًا ذكرياته الحلوة والمرة ما بين الحياة والملاحقة، عن الجيش العثماني والدولة في نهايتها، عن ذكريات الطلبة الذين جاءوا من مختلف دول العالم وعن حبّه الأول مع أنوشكا الفاتنة.
