Are the Kids Okay? describes the life of John Early Stokes. John Stokes wasn't a rich man, he wasn't a famous personality. In fact, by most measures, he was an ordinary guy. But to those who's life he touched, he was so much more. John Stokes was a loving husband, a caring father, a devoted child of God, at his core a very good man, whose humanity and humility endeared him to all who knew him.

Hey Kids, Comics! is an anthology featuring the true-life "secret origins" of comic book pros, TV and film writers, authors, journalists, and other people from all walks of life detailing why they love comic books so much and how comics have influenced their lives.

At the age of 5, he arrived at a Greyhound bus station in California, transplanted from Mexico City into the pervasive sounds of English. Now with the ink still fresh on his Juris Doctor diploma, he looks back on the journey with the rigorous training he acquired in law school as he compellingly weaves together a vivid interpretation of the raw experiences that drove him along that journey—across his childhood experiences with violence and exclusion for being Spanish-speaking, his struggles to succeed in school despite the limits of poverty.
