Oriol nació en Cuba, pero vive en Santa Bárbara, California, donde no logra encontrar su sitio. Cuban-born eleven-year-old Oriol lives in Santa Barbara, California, where she struggles to belong. And when she discovers that someone is threatening the life of a baby elephant at her parents’ clinic, Oriol is determined to take action.

Ruby es una joven elefantita a la que le encanta jugar en el barro, correr y pasar el tiempo con sus amigos, Iván, un gorila espalda plateada, y Bob, un perro callejero. También adora estar con su manada en la reserva donde vive, pero echa de menos a su tía Stella y a la familia de elefantes en la que nació en la sabana africana.
