CFRC’s spin on the Orson Welles classic! Our take on the classic piece of radio theatre, “War of the Worlds” — originally aired on CFRC 101.9 FM on October 30, 2018 in Kingston, Ontario.

The night after a shooting star is seen streaking through the sky from Mars, a cylinder is discovered on Horsell Common in London. At first, naïve locals approach the cylinder armed just with a white flag - only to be quickly killed by an all-destroying heat ray, as terrifying tentacled invaders emerge. Soon the whole of human civilisation is under threat, as powerful Martians build gigantic killing machines, destroy all in their path with black gas and burning rays, and feast on the warm blood of trapped, still-living human prey.

When H. G. Wells first published The War of The Worlds in 1898, the novel quickly became a sci-fi classic. The story of extraterrestrials from Mars invading Earth captured the public’s imagination, inspiring a famed 1938 radio broadcast with Orson Welles, several feature films, countless video games, and a best-selling musical concept album by Jeff Wayne in 1978, among others.

Rande Vandal VanDelle and his fellow Chevaliers campaign across the surface of Cinto DaSelva alongside the restored war machines of the Serpent Valley Botanist Union, intent on overturning control of the planet against a stubborn, dug-in defense.

Fresh off Tyunta and stripped of both Ardennes and his active status, Vandal must return to his home world and finish his jockey training before Colonel Swift secures a new contract. But when a new threat brews at the edge of the Heracles Gulf, Vandal faces being left behind if he can’t finish in time.

Still reeling from heavy losses on Xenotia, the Chevaliers have a new client and a new contract—one that sees Vandal sent to the war front months ahead of the rest of the company on a special assignment. Tasked with turning a hangar full of derelict uprights from a fallen star empire into a fleet of battle-ready uprights to spur a revolution, Vandal must learn how to lead his detachment of unruly mechanics. Because once they make planetfall, Vandal will step once more from the hangar to the cockpit. And those tanks are the only thing between him, and certain death.

Wars with aliens make for strange bedfellows. Five hundred years ago I died. In most cases that would have been the end of it. The thing is, I didn't stay dead. Well, actually I did, but more to the point my mind woke up in brand spanking new, state-of-the-art cloned body custom built by the Imperium to fight the B'dar. This is my story. This is the future history of me.

Bruised, battered, and barely standing, Vandal soon returns to the cockpit to bolster the ranks of a desperate defense force. As he and his fellow Chevaliers attempt to hold back the flood of turncoats, spearheaded by a legendary cadre of off-world mercenaries, Vandal must learn to master the fickle and deadly upright tanks if he wants to live to see the next contract.

When X attacks the notoriously corrupt narcotics squad known as "The Dogs of War," the manipulative Lt. Setter fights back by pitting him against the last few honest cops in Arcadia... and X's battle escalates into a war for the soul of the city!
