Sex symbols, whether from the past or present, allure like little else. Though many sex symbols have emerged over the years, three have triumphed as American icons: Rudolph Valentino of the 1920s, the Beatles band of the 1960s, and Justin Bieber of today. Through poetry, this work praises beloved American icons, while attempting to harness and integrate their charismatic powers. Hopefully, these prominent icons will inspire other sex symbol icons to emerge in the very near future.

O you, my gentle listener, I wish to say a foreword of warning before you peruse the contents of this book. I am not a poet, nor a scholar, therefore you shall find neither poems nor prose. Just dreams - daydreams - a bit of romance, a bit of sentimentalism, a bit of philosophy, not studied, but acquired by constant observation of that greatest of masters: nature!

In 1995, at the height of the Bosnian conflict, a young refugee visits the old Mardi Castle in the north of Italy. There, instead of only experiencing the beautiful fortress and Renaissance frescoes, he becomes enthralled with the story of the tragic fate of poet Enzo Strecci, who spent his last days awaiting death in the castle’s dungeon. A Franciscan guide, Niccolò, a refugee as well, will illuminate the past in remarkable ways for the curious tourist. The fascinating and moving tale reaches back not only to Strecci’s life - four centuries earlier.
