「吾輩は猫である」の七～九の三章を朗読。
「七」では、吾輩の近頃の運動を紹介する。鎌首をもたげるかまきりを相手にからかったり、蝉を取ったり、あるいは垣めぐりの最中にカラスにからかわれたりする様子を、微に入り細を穿って描写する。続いて、人間どもの衣服を競う様を馬鹿にする一方、すべての衣服を脱ぎ去って、赤裸を衆目環視のうちに露出し、談笑をほしいまましている狂態を、一大奇観として語る。
「八」では、苦沙弥先生宅の北面に隣接する落雲館中学の生徒たちとの攻防を描く。曰く、「臥竜窟苦沙弥先生と落雲館裏八百の健児との大戦争」。生徒らは、野球ボールをわざと打ち込み、無断で竹垣を越えて入り込んで、騒々しく探し回る。先生がねじ込み、以後、断わってから探すことになったら、日に十数回も大声で断りに来る。数名の来客は、先生に諭す。鈴木の藤さんは、所詮多勢に無勢、金と衆とに従いあきらめろと教え、医者の甘木先生は催眠術で神経をしずめろと助言し、そして哲学者然とした男は、消極的の精神修養で安心を得ろと説法したのだった。
「九」では、まず先生の痘痕面の由縁を説明し、鏡を見ながら長く伸ばした髪を分け、髭の手入れをする様子をおかしく語る。続いて、郵便の一端を紹介する。先生は、義捐金の呼びかけや裁縫秘術の活版購入の勧誘はうっちゃるが、趣旨不明の難解な手紙は、意味深長な哲理を反映したものとして

「下町」は、終戦後、良人がシベリア抑留からまだ戻らないリヨが、幼い子供を連れてお茶の行商する際に知り合った気さくな鶴吉との交情を描く。休暇の日、浅草に3人で遊びに行ったところ、急な雨で宿屋に泊ることになったのだが・・・。「旅情の海」は、人柄が良く前向きな「民間飛行家の志田さん」に焦点を当てたもの。自分で作った飛行場を軍に接収されたことを契機に旅に出た時に出会った、終戦で親に捨てられた純真な少年に心打たれ、彼を引き取ることなった・・・。ともに、戦争と平和について考えさせる小品の佳作。
