Adam Potter returned to Cargo City wanting to start a new life after recovering from a nasty breakup with his cheating ex-boyfriend. Adam bought a three-story building, opening his own detective agency, hiring a flirtatious college student for an assistant. Adam’s first case fell from a tree. Patrick Valdez is a blue blood aristocrat who loves to Cosplay, but also has a stalker who hides behind masks. He wants to get away from his devious boyfriend who’s blackmailing him.

Detectives A.J. Chance and Artie Cutter get assigned to investigate a murder in a familiar part of town. The detectives discover the victim had a connection to an old case they thought was closed, involving Patrick Valdez's and A.J.'s past relationships with Detective Adam Potter. A killer is out hunting people down who were involved with Patrick’s deceased abusive ex, and Patrick’s on the killer’s radar. Adam has to keep Patrick safe and watch his own back as the killer gets closer.

Tall, thin, androgynous Shirley Combs considers herself the world's greatest living detective because she uses the methods and casebook of Sherlock Holmes to solve crimes of the gentry of the American city most closely resembling London, England - in terms of the weather, at least. Sidekick/narrator Dr. Mary Watson both delights in and is frustrated by her partner's behavioral resemblance to Sherlock. Combs is unemotional, analytical, and given to pacing through the night in the streets of the almost perfectly livable city of Portland, Oregon.
