البهاء زهير هو شاعرٌ من العصر الأيوبي، خالف شعراء عصره في أساليبهم وألفاظهم وأوزان أشعارهم، فآثر البساطة وعدم التكلف و اختيار الألفاظ السهلة والأوزان الشعرية الخفيفة، وكانت له عناية خاصة بموسيقى الألفاظ، ولم يترفع في بعض شعره عن استخدام الألفاظ الشائعة على ألسن العامة، وقد لقيت طريقته إعجاب كثير من أبناء عصره.

لم ينل كتاب في الأدب العربي شهرة كتاب "الأغاني" لأبي الفرج الأصفهاني، وهو منذ أن ظهر من ألف عام قلَّ من لم يسمع به، أو يقرأ طرفا منه، أو يعتمد عليه في شيء مما يتصل بالتاريخ والحضارة، فقد كان الأصفهاني أحد أعلام عصره، شاعرٌ وراوٍ ومؤرخ وعالمٌ في الأنساب والسيرة.

يعدُّ ابن قتيبة من النماذج المشهود لها بمكانتها الأدبية والتاريخية في ذلك العصر، كما أنه أحد فقهاء الدين المُلمين بعلوم الفقه وتفسير الحديث المختلفة، وقد مدحه ابن النديم قائلاً عنه: "هو عالم باللغة والنحو وغريب القرآن ومعانيه والشعر والفقه وكثير التصنيف والتأليف".

قصة حياته أشبه بالروايات أكثر من الروايات نفسها، الكاتب الذي صعد إلى قمة النجاح والشهرة، عُرف بحس فكاهةٍ لا مثيل له، كتب أعمالاً أدبيةً بالغة الروعة، وعاش حياةً متميزةً جعلته لفترةٍ من الزمن من أهم فناني عصره، عاش حقيقةً الحلم الذي يحلم به أي كاتبٍ أو فنان، لكن الحياة لا تدوم على حال وكان لا بد للحظ أن يخذله ذات يوم، وقد خذله في الأصدقاء، فسقط بعد ذلك سقطةٍ غير مسبوقةٍ بسبب فضائح كبرى وحياةٍ مشينة.
