Professional underachiever Dan Foster is finally taking a break. Sure, his life has been average at best and, yes, he has never has quite lived up to his potential. The legendary Lone Star Cafe, a little corner of Texas right in the heart of New York City. At one time or another, everyone from the Rolling Stones to Willie Nelson has jammed there. But this night, Thanksgiving eve, there's a different type of jam at the Lone Star. Larry Barkin, half of the headlining Barkin Brothers, is found dead in his dressing room, his head bashed in with his own guitar and a two dollar bill stuffed in his shirt pocket. It's Kinky they call for help, but the fast-talking, cigar-smoking country singer turned amateur detective has other plans.

"Ageless" Hollywood diva Jessica Gray is finishing the last leg of her one-woman show in St. Louis, Missouri, and the nearby town of Chouteau Forest is dazzled. During the show, she humiliates three homeless women onstage, fires her entourage - not for the first time - and makes a bitter enemy of the town's powerful patriarch. After she collapses at an after-show party and is rushed to the hospital, she ignores the advice of her doctors and discharges herself in order to return to LA.

Denn die vielen Enttäuschungen haben sie vorsichtig gemacht. Als der Broker und Frauenschwarm Caleb Rice ein Date mit ihr möchte, wird es brenzlig. Er ist alles, was sie nicht will - und doch möchte. Arrogant, selbstbewusst bis zum Anschlag, naja, wer zum Niederknien gut aussieht und dazu noch steinreich ist... Lana sollte Angst vor diesen Gefühlen und Wünschen haben, aber als sie sich darauf einlässt, auf Caleb einlässt, ist es schon zu spät.
