Silenced Voices was created by two high school girls, who have been silenced and ignored by their community when they had tried to speak up about an act of racism. Our goal was to create a place that other racial minorities can feel comfortable and heard when they talk about their experiences and opinions. It is imperative that we empower Black women to find their voice and advocate for their healthcare needs in a system that often silences them. Through techniques such as solution-focused approaches, addressing implicit bias and racism, developing resilience and self-advocacy skills, building supportive communities, and utilizing trauma-informed care principles, we can work towards creating a more equitable healthcare system for Black women.

It’s undeniable: women’s voices aren’t being heard - at work, at home, in every facet of their lives. The fault lies not with women, but in a culture that seeks to silence women’s voices. However, there are skills every woman can harness to understand her own voice and learn how to use it with confidence. Outspoken provides listeners with the insight, guidance, and encouragement they need to use their voice to successfully communicate in meetings, around the dinner table, and during future political debates.
