Following the release of her first poetry EP Slip Of The Tongue in 2020, this collection contains 100 poems, including two each from both her father and young daughter. Using the themes of Breast, Below, Blood, Eyes, Tongue and Temple, the poems are written in May’s absorbing, visceral style and encapsulate heartbreak, sex, nature and womanhood. Included in the collection is ‘You Don’t Get to be Racist and Irish’, the powerful poem which was written in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and was recently used by Rethink Ireland campaign.

Yang Sooyi once loved her husband with all her heart. But his demanding career and stardom have left her heart crushed. She hardly sees him anymore. Jealousy creeps in, twisting her thoughts down dark paths. Yang Sooyi slowly loses her grip on sanity as loneliness grips her. Lost in sorrow, she finds herself alone at the worst possible time.

In the Shadows of Promise is an anthology of poetry based on my dreams. I have made love in my dreams, explored new lands, spoken foreign languages, and even experienced life through the eyes of other beings. I have been killed in battle, though I have no real life military experience. It is as if in some dreams I merge into the dreams or lives of others. Some incredibly happy, some terribly sad, some horrific. Some dreams leave me with a sense of purity and innocence.
