It is the autumn of 1910, and for 15 long years, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson have battled R’lluhloig, the Hidden Mind that was once Professor James Moriarty. Europe is creeping inexorably towards war, and a more cosmic conflict is nearing its zenith, as in a single night all the most eminent members of the Diogenes Club die horribly, seemingly by their own hands. Holmes suspects it is the handiwork of a German spy working for R’lluhloig, but his search for vengeance costs an old friend his life.

Coral Amherst is the middle child of a wealthy family, with fingers throughout the politics and laws of the magical Dalebloods and the Republic they lead. Skill and connections alike have propelled her to the highest ranks of the Republic’s Navy. Now, duty inexorably drags her into a mission to learn the fate of a long-lost magical city, once home to many of the people the Dalebloods rule. Storms of dark magic drove the Seablood from their ancient city and to the shores of the Republic—and those same storms now assail the Republic itself!

It is 1832. The USS Hayes sails the Indian Ocean, guided by its lord and master, Captain Gellins. Meanwhile, a shipmate is wrongly accused of stealing and faces the fatal lash. He is just one of many who have been falsely accused; others have already met their end at the gratings, all from the lies supplied to the captain by shipmate Penderghast. Who can tell what will happen if certain other shipmates take the law into their own hands to try and right this injustice?
