Stranded on prehistoric Earth, Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect find escape in the form of a time-travelling sofa. But as eleven homicidal, bat-wielding robots proceed to blow up Lord’s Cricket Ground, it seems that Arthur is far from Home and Dry. In fact, he is not even Home and Vigorously Towelling Himself. Off. Soon he is on an explosive quest to save the Universe, equipped with only a rabbit bone, a worn dressing gown, and a spaceship which looks remarkably like an Italian bistro.

Forty years on from the first ever radio series of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Arthur Dent and friends return in six brand new episodes, in which they are thrown back into the Whole General Mish Mash in a rattling adventure involving Viking Gods and Irish Confidence Tricksters, with our first glimpse of Eccentrica Gallumbits and a brief but memorable moment with The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast Of Traal.

Praticamente Inofensiva é tão polêmico quanto seu criador. Muitos o consideram o último volume da série O Mochileiro das Galáxias e outros afirmam tratar-se de um título independente, que apenas utiliza os mesmos personagens. Parte dessa controvérsia se deve aos 13 anos que separam este livro da primeira aventura de Arthur Dent, já que Adams iniciou a coleção no final dos anos 1970 e somente em 1992 retomou a história.

Depois de oito anos vagando pelos mais insondáveis cantos da Galáxia, Arthur Dent está de volta à Terra e tudo parece estranhamente normal. Todas as coisas estão em seus devidos lugares–sua casa, seu emprego, seu planeta–e é justamente por isso que ele começa a desconfiar de que ou ficou completamente maluco e tudo não passou de uma grande alucinação ou algo de muito mais estranho do que viagens espaciais a bordo de naves alienígenas poderia estar acontecendo.

Após as loucas aventuras vividas com seus estranhos amigos em O Guia do Mochileiro das Galáxias e O Restaurante no Fim do Universo, Arthur Dent ficou cinco anos abandonado na Terra Pré-Histórica. Mesmo depois de tanto tempo, ele ainda acordava todas as manhãs com um grito de horror por estar preso àquela monótona e assustadora rotina. Talvez Arthur até preferisse continuar isolado em sua caverna escura, úmida e fedorenta a encarar a próxima aventura para a qual seria forçosamente arrastado: salvar o Universo dos temíveis robôs xenófobos do planeta Krikkit.
