A fire begins in Deadwood, South Dakota, and is soon raging through the Ponderosa Pine Forest of the Black Hills. Nine-year-old Annette, her siblings, and cousins are sent home from school early. Later in the evening, the children notice the smell of smoke. Turning on the television, they find out that the fire is actually very close. The newscast reveals that Annette's dad, uncle, and their fellow workers in the Homestake Gold Mine have been signaled to evacuate the mine and ordered to join the ranks of those fighting the fire.

Twins Ben and Zoe travel the world working for top secret organization Wild. Wild is the brainchild of their godfather, Dr Fisher, who sends the children on high-risk global missions to save rare animals in deadly danger. Their latest mission takes them to a reservation in the remotest jungles of Borneo, where ruthless loggers have destroyed the home of a young orang-utan. But it’s not only the orang-utan who’s in danger. Someone has their eye on the reservation’s precious rainforest land, and it seems they’ll stop at nothing....
