Set in the post-martial-law era of late-1980s Taipei, Notes of a Crocodile is a coming-of-age story of queer misfits discovering love, friendship, and artistic affinity while hardly studying at Taiwan's most prestigious university. Told through the eyes of an anonymous lesbian narrator nicknamed Lazi, this cult classic is a postmodern pastiche of diaries, vignettes, mash notes, aphorisms, exegesis, and satire by an incisive prose stylist and major countercultural figure.

I have few friends and fewer allies. What I do have on the island of Everland is a lot of people who want me gone. So when the Crocodile and Captain Hook reappear in my life, I am in no mood. And worse, they’re unknowingly endangering themselves by asking for me by a name I long considered dead. Now, not only do I have to save myself, I have to save the two men who I swore I would murder with my bare hands if I ever set eyes on them again considering they abandoned me.

Wild Wallaby and Kind Koala decided it might be a good thing to have this crocodile along for the journey after all, even if she was a little cranky. They approached her and asked if she'd like to stick together for a while. She gave a full-toothed smirk. "It might not be a bad idea to always have a couple of plump snacks nearby." Wild Wallaby laughed and hopped off. "You'd have to catch me first." The Cranky Crocodile snapped her jaws at him. "Don't tempt me." Kind Koala couldn't tell whether or not she was joking.

Giant crocodiles exist—the man-eating Kaiju of the real world. Dr. Jennings plans on capturing one alive. Accompanied by a squad of hired mercs and an anti-poaching unit on loan from the local government, she sets out to locate and trap Tuwile, rumored to be the largest giant croc alive. Of course, things never go as planned....

The crocodile is a killer. They are feared by many. And are gentle in many ways. They appear to sleep. But are waiting to eat their prey.
