Imagine a slight change to our historical timeline where the Industrial Revolution heated up much quicker than expected. Technological marvels such as airships, trains, battleships, and submarines came into being much earlier. They were followed by steam-powered wonders such as mechanical men, flying ships, and even crafts capable of reaching the deepest fathoms of the sea or traveling to distant celestial orbs. That is the world where Sherlock Holmes and his Boswell, Dr. Watson find themselves in Sherlock Holmes: Adventures in the Realms of Steampunk.

The Sussex Beekeeper at the Dawn of Time is an unconventional and breath-taking tour de force that flirts with the crossover and steampunk genres. The book knits together a transcribed oral memoir, newspaper clippings, and myriad letters and journal pages from across two millennia, much of it held together by the pithy comments of a certain elderly beekeeper residing in Sussex, England. While comparatively few, these notes are nonetheless the essential marble skeleton on which the whole denouement and structure of the book hangs.

I had a warehouse that I used to smuggle drugs and guns. The warehouse was full and I was planning on making a final big sell before I could retire and live a simple life. It was all set in a few days when one of my workers ratted me out. The cops surrounded my place and I was cornered. I thought about putting up a fight but there was only one of me and more cops than I cared to count. I was about turn myself in when a warning alert blasted from the radio that a tornado was coming.

The Jade Princess is visiting London and is shadowed by constables to insure her safety. A constable is found mysteriously slain by the branch of a Kodama tree. Holmes is sent to investigate the death because it could trigger an international incident if anything happened to the Princess.

Sherlock Holmes suggests a vacation to Watson. They travel to Switzerland to relax and share the holidays with friends. Watson suddenly disappears on Christmas Eve. There are strange sightings...a pear tree blocking the sidewalk of a home, dancing lords, singing maidens, cows with ringing bells, a partridge in London’s Bentley Park...and it just gets more and more mysterious as Christmas approaches and Watson still remains lost to his friends.

Sherlock Holmes is contacted by Samuel Clemens - otherwise known as Mark Twain, the famous writer - and asked to help find his missing friend. Holmes travels to America where he discovers a gang, led by Mister Bleak, that hangs anyone who gets in their way. Will Mark Twain be able to find his friend, or is he one of the many that Mister Bleak will hang from the Bleak Tree?

Ramponiert vom letzten Einsatz rettet sich die Ultimo-1 mit schwindender Kraft in den Orbit eines noch unerforschten Planeten, von dem es heißt, er wäre vor 40 Jahren von einem Schiff der Galaktischen Union angesteuert worden. Tatsächlich finden der Erste Offizier, Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson dort in einem Wüstengebiet einige Wrackteile und Überlebende der Mission. Doch diese sind nicht, was sie scheinen.

In der Außenstation auf der unwirtlichen Oberfläche eines Eisplaneten ist ein Mitglied eines Forschungsteams erfroren. Doch Sherlock Holmes, der mit Dr. Watson und dem Ersten Offizier Tornot dorthin abkommandiert wurde, kommen die ganzen Umstände sehr verdächtig vor. Um den Täter ausforschen zu können, lässt er sich einen amüsanten Trick einfallen.

Auf Aldebaran c befindet sich ein Archäologen-Team, welches prophetische Steintafeln gefunden, aber auch Tote zu beklagen hat. Daflon, der wissenschaftliche Leiter der Ultimo-1, will zusammen mit Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson daher Licht in die mysteriöse Sache bringen. Bald gibt es einen weiteren Toten.

Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson sollen Admiral Schlierfaz vom Raumflotten-Kommando auf heikler Mission begleiten. Die Gattin eines Erfinders auf einem Planeten, wo Kriminalität unbekannt ist, soll überredet werden, den werten Gemahl aus dem Kryo-Schlaf zu wecken. Doch es erwartet sie eine üble Überraschung

Die Galaktische Union hat auf einem Exoplaneten ein Klon-Experiment gestartet, das zu scheitern droht. Daher erhält der Erste Offizier Tornot den Auftrag, Nachschau zu halten. Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson unterstützen ihn als zivile Begleiter und geraten in eine unheimliche Gesellschaft.

Der Flug der Ultimo-1 wird durch ein Geisterschiff gestoppt, das seit zweieinhalb Jahrzehnten als verschollen galt. Nur ein Überlebender an Bord könnte über das Geschehen Auskunft geben, doch er schweigt. Dr. Watson versucht beharrlich, ihn aus der Reserve zu locken, während Sherlock Holmes die horriblen Vorgänge an Bord aufzuklären versucht.
