The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place is the last of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. The original title The Adventure of the Black Spaniel was changed before publication. Der auf Gut Shoscombe lebende Reiter Sir Robert Norberton muss das nächste Rennen unbedingt gewinnen, weil er durch die Abhängigkeit von seiner Schwester, Lady Beatrice, in finanziellen Nöten ist. Außerdem berichtet der Pferdetrainer Mason, dass Norberton nachts eine alte Gruft aufsuchte. Nach einigen Untersuchungen vor Ort überraschen Holmes und Watson den Reiter in der Gruft. Er erklärt ihnen, dass seine Schwester eine Woche vor dem wichtigen Rennen gestorben sei, womit der Nießbrauch des Gutes endete.

Shoscombe Old Place (Shoscombe Old Place) erschien erstmals im März 1927 im Liberty Magazin und im April des gleichen Jahres im Strand Magazine. Einige Monate später wurde er mit elf anderen Fällen in dem Sammelband Sherlock Holmes' Buch der Fälle veröffentlicht.
