Gennem sin barndom har forfatter og journalist Janne Aagaard besøgt sin mors moster Gudrun på et plejehjem i Arden og undret sig over Gudruns skæbne: "Hun var lidt af en legende i vores familie. Gudrun, der var indlagt stort set hele sit liv, damen med bare et ben, hende der elskede mænd. Skammen og skylden lå som et stort tæppe over hende og hendes begrædelige liv." Gudrun er en af de 4500 danskere, der fra midten af 1940’ene og 40 år frem fik det hvide snit - det sidste blev udført i 1983.
