Stop the Silence is a department in the Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma (IVAT) and has a mission to prevent, expose, and stop child sexual abuse (CSA) and help survivors worldwide. By the time Barbara was four years old, she already knew what she would have to do: get tough or die. Before DVDs existed, Barbara's childhood trauma was permanently recorded and embedded in her head. Long before "surround sound" technologies were available, she captured all of the sights and sounds of her childhood in vivid detail. To author this book, all she had to do was press “play,” and that scared her because many of those details were not a pretty picture. Some looked more like an old Alfred Hitchcock horror movie.

Growing up in an environment unsure of anything is stressful. Being unaware, but knowing at the same time something doesn’t feel right, is uncomfortable. You know the saying “what goes on in this house stays in this house”. But what actually goes on in this house? Who do you call? What do you say? Do I love her enough to endure this with her?Does she love me enough to let go? If love is the key that unlocks the heart, then where is the key that prevents death?
