Das Werk "Melmoths Aussöhnung", das im Jahr 1835 verfasst wurde, gehört zu Balzacs "Philosophischen Studien". Der Bankkassierer Castanier plant einen betrügerischen Wechsel um das ausschweifende Leben seiner Mätresse zu finanzieren.
