Fat and friendless, carer to her mother by day and a secret binge eater by night, 28-year-old Alison hates her life. She’s trying her very best to be a good person, but it’s harder than she thought it would be and, if she’s honest, which she’s mostly not; it’s a bit boring. Is she more like Mother than she’d care to admit?

Back home after her life changing moment at Frogham train station, it seems that Alison's life is looking up, and there's even a possibility of romance on the horizon. Maybe she can finally stop lying. But it's not very long before it all starts to go wrong, and when Alison makes an enemy of Blake's new girlfriend, she decides it's time to get herself a proper job and make something of herself.

My husband is dead. I attended his funeral. I watched his casket be lowered six feet into the ground. (Actually, it may have been only five feet, but that still seems like more than enough.) Pubblicata per la prima volta su Rassegna Contemporanea nell'agosto del 1911, "I fortunati" è una novella in cui Pirandello critica in maniera molto dura il mondo della chiesa, senza per questo rinunciare alla sua tagliente ironia. Conosciamo così Don Arturo Filomarino, giovane prete del piccolo paesino di Montelusa (paesino immaginario che, molto probabilmente, è Girgenti), che deve fare i conti con una pesantissima eredità.

"Jeri e oggi" venne pubblicata da Pirandello per la prima volta nel giugno del 1919 ne "Il Messaggero della domenica", anche se l'autore siciliano l'aveva scritta già nel 1915. In questa novella facciamo la conoscenza di Marino Lerna, giovane sottotenente romano. Il ragazzo sta partendo per il fronte e i genitori lo salutano disperati.

In questa novella Pirandello ci presenta Aurelio, un anziano che ha condotto una vita molto sfortunata, tanto da sembrare una caricatura del Giobbe biblico. Privato di tutto, passa ormai le giornate visitando le chiese di Roma. Durante una delle sue visite però si appisolerà e farà un sogno molto strano...

"'Io non so com'è la gente!' soleva ripetere don Marchino per lo meno una ventina di volte al giorno, insaccandosi nelle spalle e aprendo le mani a ventaglio davanti al petto, con gli angoli della bocca contratti in giù: 'Io non so com'è la gente!'".

"Benedizione" inizia così, con le parole di Don Marchino, parroco di campagna che sembra vivere in un mondo tutto suo, completamente indifferente a tutto quello che lo circonda. Ancora una volta Pirandello ci regala un piccolo grande gioiello, una novella che che ci mette di fronte all'assurdità della vita e della morte.

In questa novella di Luigi Pirandello, Gaetano Marino ci narra la storia di Spatolino, muratore capomastro che lavora per il comune, famoso per la sua fede e la sua devozione. Una novella in cui Pirandello si diverte a descrivere con grande ironia la società siciliana del tempo e, soprattutto, il suo rapporto con la fede e la religione cattolica.

Due giovani donne forti e volitive si scontrano e confrontano sul difficile terreno della burocrazia. Le scartoffie e le pratiche burocratiche diventano un'occasione di scontro e un modo per parlare delle difficoltà che i migranti incontrano sulla via dell'integrazione nel nostro paese.
