This is a crime and science fiction novel. It's back to the flatlands for Reggie! It appears that a multi-planet mining company is manipulating the universe gold market. Once again, if the price of gold goes down too far, Cerberus will go ghost. And once again, like in book one, Reggie must find the new source of gold and to see if it exists or is just a scam.

It is 2171, one hundred years later, and the major cities of the world are still in isolation after the large scale warfare of the 21st Century. A scientist attempts to contact the outside world and seeks an important missing manuscript, while a beautiful and ruthless young woman unwittingly gives an evil recluse a powerful secret. A love triangle is exploited by this unscrupulous man, who steals the secret for himself.

The book begins with the murder of the narrator. The bandits believe him to be dead so the largest mining company on the planet uses his apparent death as a cover to turn him into a secret agent. The planet, Cerberus, makes it money mining gold, and there is an unusual amount of high quality gold that is just appearing on the planetary market. That is driving the price of gold down, which is bad news for a planet.
