A year after a grand tour with her brother, Felicity Montague has returned to England with two goals - avoid the marriage proposal of a lovestruck suitor and enroll in medical school. Kurz nach ihrem Abi reist die 19-jährige Juno zu einem englischen Adelssitz, wo sie ein Jahr Gesellschafterin einer alten Dame sein wird. Dort ist alles altmodisch: Es gibt unbequeme Kleider, Kerzenlicht und kein Internet – aber auch zwei junge Lords, die Juno schon bald nicht mehr aus dem Kopf gehen. Doch alles wird immer merkwürdiger, es scheint, als wäre auf dem Anwesen die Zeit stehen geblieben.
