As Peyton returns from her family leave, following the death of her father, she wants nothing more than to get back to solving crimes. However, her first case, the double homicide of a prominent wine-growing couple, has brought back all of the despair she felt upon losing her father. Can Peyton put aside her own loss in order to bring justice to the Saint-Pierres?

Peyton thought working for the FBI would bring new adventure and intrigue into her life. Certainly being assigned to the Ghost Squad promised such things, but reality is often different from the dream. Everything is wrong. Her new boss, Radar, thinks she's angling for his job, her personal life is in shambles, and her once over-crowded house has become an empty shell where she and her dog, Pickles, wander about, longing for what was lost.

Peyton and Marco have the best crime-solve statistics in the Homicide Division, but that accolade might be in jeopardy when a football player is murdered on Halloween. The suspects look like a line-up for the Village People: a clown, a cowboy, and a police officer. Can they solve the case before the assailants remove their masks and go back to their 9 to 5 jobs?

After solving two cases in her first months with the FBI, Peyton feels things are beginning to come together in her career. Her personal life is another matter. Although Marco has shown signs he wants to work on their relationship, building trust will take time. However, that progress is put on hold when an American college student is killed in London. Peyton and the Ghost Squad must venture across the pond to solve the murder and catch a killer that grows bolder with each attack, leaving only a single clue behind - the howl of a werewolf.

In the last few months, Peyton has solved multiple cases for the FBI, while Marco has learned to navigate his role as police captain. Navigating their personal relationship has proven more challenging, however. Marco’s jealousy over Peyton’s newest friend, Mike, causes friction between them, but although he tries to curb it, he can’t deny a growing feeling that something isn’t right with this man.

When Peyton and Marco embark upon a vacation to Kauai, they are only looking for sunshine, blue waters, and white sand. Although they feel guilty about stealing time for themselves, they know they may not get another chance to concentrate on each other without the pressure from both of their jobs driving them apart. The beautiful island of Kauai welcomes them, and they begin to relax, until a body is found floating in the hot tub at their hotel with a poisoned arrow sticking out of his chest.

Peyton and Marco finally have everything they’ve wanted for so long. The future has never looked brighter or more secure, but...Marco’s battle with the mob terrorizing San Francisco has become personal and he’s square in their crosshairs. Naturally, car bombs going off in the middle of the city draws the attention of the FBI and when a splinter group called the Goblins claims responsibility, who better to take them out than the Ghost Squad? Of course, Peyton has no choice. When someone threatens her man, she’s ready to go to war.

After his surgery, Marco has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him, but his precinct needs him to focus on the murder of a young serviceman who might have intimate ties to the mayor. Peyton wants to be there for him; however, when a DEA agent turns up missing, the Ghost Squad is called to the Yucatan to investigate. What they find there will embroil them in a drug war between two countries, where illicit activities are being bartered underground and the players are impossible to identify.

Peyton knows the first suspect is always the husband, but Jake Ryder isn't acting like a typical suspect. Jake truly loved his wife. So what went wrong? Stepping into the circle of the social elite, Peyton finds that things work differently when you're at the top. And Jake Ryder seems to be caught in the epicenter. Ultimately, Peyton finds that you never know what darkness lurks in the human mind and that some will murder to keep that darkness hidden.
