Sam Osborne may have helped her new friend Hector Griggs save St. Lawrence’s Catholic School for Boys from a terrifying monster, but she is still trying to prove herself as a member of Kairos, the secretive and shadowy government agency devoted to investigating the strange and unusual. And her unique ability to control how others see her makes her the perfect agent…if she can learn to play by Kairos’ rules.

Sixth grade takes a turn for the weird when Hector Griggs discovers he has the ability to turn invisible. Sure, ever since Hector’s former best friend Blake started bullying him, he’s been feeling like he just wants to disappear…but he never thought he actually would. And then, Hector meets another invisible boy, Orson Wellington, who has an ominous warning: “I’m stuck here. Stuck like this. It’s been years. The gelim’s hunting me and it’ll get you, too.”

Ten-year-old Gabriel Jordan always wanted to be a magician. He just isn’t very good at it. His godmother writes to a mysterious traveling magician named Thrylos and begs him to visit Gabe, just to encourage him. To her surprise and Gabe’s, Thrylos does so - only it turns out that Thrylos doesn’t just do “magic tricks”. He’s a real magician, and he offers Gabe a magical adventure - any adventure - of his choice. Thrylos reveals that he is a time-traveling magician, and he travels throughout history to various critical, kairos moments in time.

It’s been a year since Gabe, Marty, and Elizabeth’s last adventure, and Gabe is starting to wonder if Thrylos will ever summon them again. But then, the magician himself shows up at the Lovejoys’ door one day, frantically summoning them in person to their biggest assignment yet. Not only will he be going along this time, but they will also need the help of other magicians and apprentices, too.
