Herbert West–Reanimator is a horror short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was written between October 1921 and June 1922. It was first serialized in February through July 1922 in the amateur publication Home Brew. The story was the basis of the 1985 horror film Re-Animator and its sequels, in addition to numerous other adaptations in various media.

H. P. Lovecraft was influenced by Edgar Allan Poe and Lord Dunsany's fictional works, and eventually, his stories and books became as good as, perhaps even better than theirs.

Herbert West, who is a medical student and later qualifies as a doctor, becomes obsessed with the possibility of reanimating corpses. Unfortunately, the revived subjects do not adapt to reintegration into society. West himself eventually becomes the victim of one of the homicidal zombies.

Although he was not famous during his lifetime, his work is now considered a classic of literature. Lovecraft's work has influenced many authors, including Stephen King, who considers him "the greatest craftsman of the classic horror story of the 20th century."
