Rome, the very end of December. The Field of Mars is packed with monuments, none more beautiful than Domitian's new Odeon and Stadium. But the area has been overtaken by ugly events: elaborately staged murders. Someone bears a spectacular grudge against the theatrical community and intends to get revenge in the most spectacular way possible. The killer's method is to re-enact bloody scenes from the gruesome side of popular theatre, where characters in plays really die on stage.

When the body of famous actress Niki Francis is unearthed from its shallow grave, the small town of Medford, Oregon is alarmed but not shook. After all, there should be plenty of motives and suspects - Niki had fame, wealth, looks. The kill was targeted and premeditated, and it's about her celebrity...or so they thought.

When a bike club president's sister goes missing during a meeting, he goes straight to Portman's Creamery for help when he hears their name. The girls take on the case without telling anyone else. They dig deep into the case and realize that it may be a bit more complicated than expected. What appears to be a kidnapping may be about a runaway. It may also be about star-crossed lovers. The case leaves them with very little clues to work with. It also doesn't help that Stacey is starting to fall for her own client.
