Deep in the frontier of a galactic empire, on the edges of explored space, a body is found near a remote settlement on an alien world. The body of a child. The victim isn't from the settlement, her cause of death is suspicious, and where she came from is a complete mystery. How did this little girl get to this planet light-years away from civilization, and how did she die? To solve this baffling case, the local settlers call upon the Galactic Rangers, a newly formed group of roving lawmen who are tasked with bringing law and order to the Frontier.
