The New Atlantis (1627) is a utopian novel by Sir Francis Bacon in which he describes a vision of the future of human discovery, expressing his aspirations and ideals for humanity. The novel portrays a utopian world where "generosity and enlightenment, dignity and splendour, piety and public spirit" are the dominant qualities of the inhabitants.

On a lost continent during Roman times, Epinanaus, a renowned historian, has upset the Emperor Bolgud by rebuking the decadent palace and carnal indulgences. Enraged, the emperor sends him on an impossible military expedition into the lands of the Centaurs. Although assumed to be dead, the historian survives and decides to retire, dwelling on the outskirts of the empire where he studies philosophy, becoming a sage and contemplating the existence of the all. He establishes a solitary hermitage in the desert: "The Well of Souls".

Adam flees his controlling family and unfulfilling religious career only to recreate his former prison on a tropical island. Maya's search for love and belonging begins with hope but is soon crushed with rejection by those she trusts most. At the end of their ropes, they are surprised to find an unlikely, otherworldly guide that leads them to the enchanted lost city of Atlantis and the discovery of their unbelievable power.
