Five years ago, the human race became independent, as the Alphan Empire conceded it could no longer sustain its grip on Earth and withdrew, casting an unprepared humanity adrift on an interstellar sea of troubles. Since then, humanity has struggled mightily to secure its position in a galaxy full of hungry predators, many of whom see Earth as nothing more than a prize to be won. Now, one of the galaxy’s superpowers has set its sights on Earth, launching a covert campaign to weaken and isolate the human race before it moves in for the kill.

Humanity has won a great victory, liberating their homeworld from the alien Pashtali and convincing many of the alien great powers that Earth is much more than a vassal state of a decaying empire, easy meat for the first invader who comes along. But the war is far from over. The Pashtali are gathering their forces, closing down their border wars with smaller powers while the greater ones sit on the sidelines, readying their navy for a final confrontation with Earth. The end cannot be long delayed.

For years space telescopes had found four nearby stars very promising. The first fleet consisted of three crafts faster than anything ever built. Their mission was to visit them to survey for possible habitable worlds. More advanced, the second fleet was planned to be launched decades later with the goal of landing on alien worlds. Fifty years beyond that, the third fleet would carry a cargo of frozen colonists. Everything went as planned until the crews of first fleet woke up near their selected stars.

In this the sequel, centuries passed before an alien craft intercepts a derelict human starship drifting through the void. With effort, the crew is resurrected. Eventually, Earth is located and an expedition is sent a hundred light years distance to investigate. Approaching at incredible speed, the mystery of Earth will soon be solved, but at what price? If it is empty, the powerful Tarden plan on claiming the Earth for themselves. What if humanity still exists?

The age of exploration had been replaced by the age of war. The Tarden Republic lay fractured. The rebellion on Brakk had been brutally beaten down for a second time leaving the race near extinction.
