Long Wu Ying hatte sich nie vorstellen können, einer Sekte beizutreten oder ein richtiger Kultivator zu werden. Er verbrachte seine Tage mit Lernen, dem Reisanbau auf den Feldern seiner Eltern und mit seinen Freunden. Das Schicksal jedoch hat andere Pläne für Wu Ying und als die Armee in seinem Dorf eintrifft, werden er und viele andere Dorfbewohner rekrutiert.

Zwei jahre sind vergangen und der Krieg zwischen den Königreichen der Shen und Wei tobt weiter. Die dunkle Sekte regt sich im Schatten, greift die erhabene Sekte des Sattgrünen Wassers an und verletzt, tötet oder entführt ihre Mitglieder.

Wu Ying hat seinen Meister vor den Machenschaften der dunklen Sekte gerettet, wurde währenddesse aber schwer verletzt. Sein Körper hat sich verändert, seine Blutlinie ist erwacht und seine Kultivation wurde beeinträchtigt. Die Ärzte und Heiler in der Sekte des Sattgrünen Wassers können nichts für ihn tun.

Als Mitglied der inneren Sekte des Sattgrünen Wassers muss sich Long Wu Ying den Gepflogenheiten eines Kultivators fügen und für eine Nebentätigkeit entscheiden. Wu Ying muss eine Tätigkeit finden, die seinen Dao unterstützt: Von unsterblicher Alchemie über die Schmiedekunst, Medizin bis hin zur Kampfkunstspezialisation und vielem mehr. In der Außenwelt trommeln unterdessen die Kriegstrommeln ununterbrochen weiter und die Sekte ist im Begriff, noch stärker in den Kampf um die Vorherrschaft der zwei Staaten gesogen zu werden.

Long Wu Ying wurde aus der Sekte des Sattgrünen Wassers verbannt, weil er sich den Befehlen der Ältesten widersetzt hat. Gezwungen, sich in der Außenwelt zu beweisen, bevor ihm die Rückkehr gestattet wird, bricht Wu Ying auf eine Reise auf, die ihn an altbekannte Orte und in ein neues Königreich verschlagen wird.

Wu Yings ruhiger Winter, der mit Training und Erholung erfüllt ist, wird aufgewirbelt, als sein Meister und die Älteste Yang verletzt zurückkehren. Das Gift der Drei Jahreszeiten fließt durch die Adern seines Meisters und tötet den mächtigen Ältesten langsam. Seine einzige Hoffnung – ein seltenes Gegengift.
