The Mystery of the Yellow Room is Gaston Leroux's masterpiece, and it turned out to be his most successful book during his lifetime. It is one of the classics of early twentieth century detective fiction.

Gaston Leroux is best known for writing the novel The Phantom of the Opera. However, he also wrote some excellent detective stories. In fact,Leroux's contribution to French detective fiction is considered a parallel to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's in the United Kingdom and Edgar Allan Poe's in America. In this, his most popular mystery, rival detectives try to crack a case.

A man named Adolphe visits Leroux at his office at the Morning Journal and delivers to him a chest that was bequeathed to him by his friend Theophraste Longuet. Leroux begins investigating its contents and relates the very strange experience of Longuet. While visiting a famous prison, Theophraste Longuet, a retired rubber stamp manufacturer, is possessed by the spirit of Cartouche, a criminal who plagued Paris in the 18th century.

The surviving Nihilists have condemned the Russian General Trebassof to death for the crimes he and his troops committed against the revolution. Three attempts on his life have failed, but the Czar is determined to keep him alive.

Ce roman fait suite au "Mystère de la chambre jaune". On y retrouve, autour de Roulletabille, les principaux personnages. Mathilde Stangerson et Robert Darzac, enfin mariés, se rendent en villégiature chez leurs amis Édith et Arthur Rance au château d'Hercule. Mais Larsan que l'on croyait mort réapparaît et terrorise Mathilde. Rouletabille, aidé de son fidèle Sinclair, enquête.

Los hechos ocurrieron en el castillo del Glandier un edificio muy antiguo y una habitación cerrada escuchar los gritos de auxilio de la víctima desde su interior, disparos, ruidos de golpes y muebles que se caen, pero nadie puede entrar a socorrer a la joven que está siendo atacada.

Esta obra que le supuso un abrumador éxito en las letras a su autor, Gaston Leroux, hasta el punto de inaugurar su propio subgénero literario: el misterio de la habitación cerrada. Asistimos a la investigación del intento de asesinato contra Mathilde Stangerson, con una particularidad: la víctima se encontraba sola en una habitación cerrada por dentro. La caza por encontrar al agresor se convertirá en un juego de ingenio en el que el lector deberá participar de forma activa. Un divertidísimo y estimulante clásico de la novela policiaca.
