Jonathan Swift almost defines satire in his biting and brutal pamphlet in which he suggests that poor (Catholic) Irish families should fatten up their children and sell them to the rich (Protestant) land owners, thus solving the twin problems of starving children and poverty in one blow. When the "Proposal" was published in 1729, Swift was quickly attacked, and even accused of barbarity - the exact state the "Proposal" was written to expose.

Gulliver, verfremdet als Tier, wird von den Houyhnhnms zunächst nicht als gleichwertiger Partner aufgenommen. Wie auch? Halten sich die Pferde doch menschenähnliche Geschöpfe, die Yahoos, als Nutztiere. Gulliver sieht lediglich reinlicher als diese aus. Er gewinnt jedoch das Vertrauen des Anführers der Pferde.

Natürlich denken wir bei dem Begriff "Science Fiction" unmittelbar an "Krieg der Sterne" oder "Raumschiff Enterprise", doch liegen die Anfänge des Genres weit in der Vergangenheit. Bereits im 18. Jahrhundert schrieb Jonathan Swift mit "Gullivers Reisen" einen frühen Klassiker der sogenannten "Zukunftsliteratur". In dieser großen Hörbuch Box geht es nicht um technikverliebte Weltraumliteratur a la "Perry Rhodan", sondern um klassische Literatur, die sich mit dem Thema beschäftigt, wie es in der Zukunft aussehen könnte, und das sowohl höchst realistisch als auch mit großer Hingabe zur Fiktion.
