Als mehr oder weniger glückliche Mutter von Friday, Tuesday und Jenny lebt sie mit ihrem geliebten Ehemann Landen zusammen und geht auch jeden Morgen zur Tarnfirma Acme-Carpets, um die schöne Stadt Swindon mit Teppichen und Parkett zu versorgen. In Wirklichkeit ist Thursday natürlich weiter Geheimagentin für SpecOps und verschwindet regelmäßig in die BuchWelt, in der sie jetzt auch Lehrlinge ausbilden muss.

Nach jahrelangem Aufenthalt in der BuchWelt kehrt Agentin Thursday Next mit ihrem zweijährigen Söhnchen Friday und Hamlet, dem bekannten Dänenprinzen, in ihre Heimatstadt Swindon zurück. Im Haus ihrer Mutter warten schon andere Gäste auf sie: Lady Hamilton und Fürst Bismarck, der den deutsch-dänischen Krieg von 1864 zu vermeiden versucht. Ansonsten sind es keine guten Zeiten für Dänen.
