It was originally published in 1892.

Queste raccolta completa di lettere scritte dalla Austen, (159), sono indirizzate quasi sempre alla sorella Cassandra, nei brevi periodi in cui non vivevano insieme. Molte sono state in gran parte distrutte da quest'ultima dopo la morte di Jane; pertanto dobbiamo prendere le lettere per quello che sono, senza aspettarci di trovarvi espressioni di soggetti privati come sentimenti, religione, politica.
