  • Bershan Shaw - Breast Cancer Survivor
    Nov 6 2024

In this episode of the mibo show, Shanti Das speaks with life coach, motivational speaker, author, and TV personality Bershan Shaw. She is a two-time breast cancer survivor and is highly acclaimed for her unwavering zest to conquer life and motivate others in the process. Bershan was given three months to live when given her breast cancer diagnosis. 20 years later, she is still thriving. Shaw talks about her journey, her message, and her Urawarrior app to help others. the mibo show is proudly supported by Johnson & Johnson as part of its long-standing commitment to advance health equity in the United States and around the world. Here are some facts about breast cancer: In 2022, the Mayo Clinic reported that “breast cancer was the leading cause of cancer death among Black women, according to a new report by the American Cancer Society. Black women are now 41% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women despite a lower risk of being diagnosed with the disease. This is partly because Black women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer at a later stage when it is harder to treat, and they are less frequently undergoing screening mammography. However, Black women have lower survival rates for every stage of breast cancer diagnosis. Many complex factors contribute to this gap in care outcomes ― all of which are fueled by systemic racism that limits access to high-quality cancer treatment.” Resources: Johnson & Johnson Health Equity: https://www.jnj.com/global-health-equity My Health Can’t Wait (MHCW): https://www.myhealthcantwait.com Please support Shanti Das' non-profit: https://www.silencetheshame.com
