Plaster, on the other hand, is a mixture of gypsum, lime, or cement with water and is applied in several layers over a lath (a supporting structure) to create walls and ceilings. The plastering process is more labor-intensive, requiring skilled artisans to carefully apply and smooth the material. While this often results in a more solid and aesthetically pleasing finish, it can be more expensive and time-consuming to install than drywall. Plaster walls are also more resistant to dings and scratches and can provide better sound and fire insulation, but repairing them can be more challenging than fixing drywall.
