  • Childhood Sexual Trauma Effects on Adults and Biblio Therapy
    Mar 28 2023

Dr. Kate and Dr. John discuss a study on how childhood sexual trauma can still affect the victim as they get older.

They discuss the stages after trauma:

    1. First a physical response, emotional and physical pain

    2. Begin recognizing emotions, become aware, and get more power over vulnerabilities.

    3. Amelioration of event.

    Stabilization and re-acclimation.

    4. Assimilation: Making sense of it all. Understand the impact and ultimately reduction of symptoms.

There is no timeline for healing. They discuss that there’s not necessarily an “end” to healing. And the process of healing is not always linear. You don’t have to move forward all the time, one can go right or left during healing. There are no rules about how or when in individual healing.

Dr. Kate and Dr. John also recommend books to read on this subject as part of the potential healing path.

  • Rejection/Murder: When NO takes a horrible turn.
    Mar 21 2023

Today Dr. Kate and Dr. John are talking about a few specific cases and the overall issue of women rejecting men and winding up with horrible consequences. It may be flattering to be pursued, but what if you definitely want to say “not interested.”

Whether the person seems a little off base, a little strange, or is seemingly perfectly ‘normal”, people can snap when rejected. In all of these cases being discussed today, the victim knew the killer.  We will discuss the traits of men pursuing, getting rejected, and becoming unhinged.

How do you possibly know if someone is on that track? are there better ways to “say no”?  Online, in the office, or at an activity in your town, you just never know who someone really is. This haunting truth can impact our trust in others. What is the line between caution and not living in fear?

Dr. Kate and Dr. John will look at these cases and discuss all aspects of these extreme outcomes including noticing some traits of the men capable of killing triggered by rejection.

  • Self-Regulation and it’s connection to early sexual trauma
    Mar 14 2023

This is one of our Without Consent “Shorts” where we look at a subject and cover it in a short version of the podcast. Many we will go back to later and do a more in-depth look at the subject matter.

In this episode, Dr. Kate and Dr. John explore and critique an article in a medical journal about self-regulation and its correlation to early childhood sexual trauma.

They look at the archived data from 156 subjects: patients that are criminally committed.

Self-regulation has to do with how we regulate our nervous system. They explore the 4 forms of regulation from immature to mature handle on our emotional responses:

    1.          Auto Regulation

    2.          External regulation

    3.          Co-regulation

    4.          Self-regulation
