Howdy and Welcome back to Wild West Deep Dives.

This week, we are going to be talking about the legend of Ed Rose.

He was a true pioneer of the American West. He was a part of the first American expeditions in the fur trade and he was a man that did not know the meaning of fear.

No, Five Scalps starred death in the eyes and gave a sharp smirk at it through his scarred face, earning the respect from the Crow Nation and becoming a chief.

But who was he? Where’d he come from? How’d he earn the nickname Five Scalps? And was he really the man that warned the fur trappers about the Arikara sneak attack?

Well, lets get into shall we, my names Stephen and this is Wild West Deep Dives.

    Jan 7 2025

    Send us a text

Howdy and Welcome back to Wild West Deep Dives, this is Part 4 of our Deep Dive into life of Hugh Glass. Last week, we talked about how his party was attacked by the normally peaceful Mandan and Hidatsa’s, his infamous encounter with Old Ephraim, Glass getting abandoned by his comrades, and his heroic journey of vengeance.

I know I left y’all on a cliff hanger last week, but man oh man do we have a lot to discuss! How would his quest for vengeance end? Will he kill the two men that left him to die? Would he get his damn rifle back?!? This will be a fun one.

Well let’s get into it shall we!

Howdy and welcome back to Wild West Deep Dives. This is our 2nd episode into the life of Hugh Glass. If you haven’t listen to the first episode, please go do so!

Last week, we talked about his childhood, his time as a pirate, him almost getting sacrificed by the Wolf Pawnee, but plot twist, was adopted by the Chief and him joining the famous, Rocky Mountain Fur Company.

This week, we are going to talk about his first years as a fur trapper and his involvement in the Arikara War. Disclaimer, there are several different accounts of the battles that took place, I tried to piece it together the best I could but no one is 100% certain what happened in each situation.

Well, let’s get into shall we!

  • Short Dive; The Legend of Bill Wilson
    Nov 11 2024

    Send us a text

Howdy and Welcome back to Wild West Deep Dives.

This Short Dive is about a man named Bill Wilson, he was a Missouri Bushwhacker during the American Civil War. A Bushwhacker, is a confederate symphosizer who is not associated with the Confederate Army, a Jayhawker, was a Union symphosizer who is not associated with the Union army. Both sides had these guerrilla fighters that raised hell during the war.

This episode was inspired by a book called; Bushwhacker, by George Clinton Arthur. I will be doing my own short of story telling, but all the information, events, quotes, etc. came from Mr. Arthurs book.

Bill Wilson was also the inspiration behind the movie; Outlaw Josey Wales.

Reminder; I titled this episode "The Legend" of Bill Wilson as there are not many cold hard facts that can be found on Mr. Wilson. This episode was a lot of fun to research and record as there are voice actors, sound effects, anything I could do to make it seem authentic and like you are in the moment. I hope y'all enjoy it!

Next week; the episode will be a little update episode as I have episodes in the works, but I'll only release episodes when I have series completed, I don't want to release an episode and then have to skip a week because the next one isn't finished.

Thank you all for the love and support, y'all are amazing!
