In 2019, the women's team filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation, alleging gender discrimination in pay and working conditions. The lawsuit was settled in 2022, with the federation agreeing to pay $24 million and committing to equal pay for the men's and women's teams in all friendlies and tournaments, including the World Cup. In tennis, although prize money for grand slam tournaments has been equal for men and women since 2007, there is still a significant disparity in overall earnings.
