• 🔒 War of the Sontarans - Episode Commentary with Jonny "Passenger" Mathers! 🚀
    Sep 19 2024

    Subscriber-only episode

We go back to the Flux to witness the battle between mankind and the Sontarans and we're aided by Passenger himself - Jonny Mathers!

Jonny returns to WHOC2C to join us for an episode commentary on one of the episodes he appeared in during the Flux series.

In this episode, the Doctor is lost on the Crimean battle fields, fending off advancing Sontaran armies and hostile British soldiers, whilst Yaz is lost in time and space as is Dan, who has ended up back in the now Sontaran occupied Liverpool!

Reuniting at the end, we discover a potentially shocking fate for Yaz and the Doctor meets her new (or old) enemies and Passenger too!

We chat through the episode with Jonny and hear stories including...

    • what did John Bishop tell Jonny off for?!
    • who fell off their chair whilst the rest of the cast took photos?
    • what did Jonny not know was appearing in Flux?
    • how much was being rewritten during filming due to Covid restrictions?
    • who brought cakes to his first location filming day?

    ...and much more!

So settle down, load up War of the Sontarans and listen along with us as we watch the episode back!

  • Doctor Who - Vengeance on Varos | REVIEWED!
    Sep 8 2024

In desperate need of the rare mineral ore, Zeiton-7, your intrepid hosts Paul and Geoff (after some bickering about the current state of TV and cinema in a world of disposable short content media) arrive on Varos in the space year 1985.

There they discover a dark world of paranoia and brutal justice, a nightmarish Orwellian deepstate in which sales of video nasties fuel a society led by opportunistic sociopaths who control their populace and their Governor through a process of deadly democracy. Here, voting YES or NO means something far worse than a place in a dance-off or another night in the jungle.

Yes indeedy. In another of our SIXIE SPECIALS, we take a deep dive into the murky thematic and narrative depths of the classic 6th Doctor story: VENGEANCE ON VAROS!

Widely hailed as one of Doctor Who's most sophisticated episodes - because it foresaw the advent of Gogglebox and I'm a Celebrity way before The Hunger Games was even a thing - Vengeance on Varos fed the fans of Doctor Who with many memorable moments and characters , not least one of the best villains of the 1980s, the greedy sales rep Sil from the Galatron Mining Corporation!

So, grab your food trays, fire up your telescreens and get ready to cast your vote on Varos' many burning questions.

    Such as:

    • How 'prescient' was this story?
    • How brilliant is Sil?
    • How amazing is Martin Jarvis, previously a humanoid butterly?
    • What happens when you give highly stylised, verbose dialogue to the son of James Bond?
    • Bird or beast?
    • Fish or foul?
    • What happened to the 'Go-Faster!' button on those electric buggies in the punishment dome?

Plus we hear from other fans too!

Get ready to hit play and vote YES or NO in 5... 4... 3... ... ...

  • Death in the Stars | Book Review
    Sep 1 2024

Thanks to the lovely folk at BBC Books we were lucky to get our hands on a MASSIVE haul of brand new Doctor Who Target books AND the debut novel by Bonnie Langford: Death in the Stars.

Geoff was busy on Horsham Film Festival duties but Paul decided to take Bonnie's book away with him on holiday so he could read it on the beach. Which he did!

As anyone who's listened to us before will know, Paul is very particular with his books, and arguably way too obsessed with 'science' for a show which features a magic police box and aliens who can regularly change their form when they get killed.

However, he is a massive fan of Target novels - often dropping into misty-eyed nostalgia as soon as anyone mentions "The Auton Invasion" or "Doctor Who and the Loch Ness Monster".

So what did he think of this brand new original novel written by Bonnie who played the novel's main character, ex Doctor Who companion of the 1980s (recently returned to New-Who) Ms Melanie Bush?

    • Has Paul fully exorcised his demons since first watching Terror of the Vervoids?
    • What did he think of Mel and Glitz's relationship?
    • What does Lord of the Flies have to do with any of this?
    • Is there any 'hard science' among the shenanigans of Death in the Stars to keep him happy?
    • And how many cups of tea out of five has he awarded the book?

Listen up to find out the answers to all these questions and more!

  • Doctor Who - The Twin Dilemma | REVIEWED!
    Aug 25 2024

    Hurrah for Sixie!

Kicking off our series which will celebrate Colin Bakers' Sixth Doctor, his adventures, his companions and his audios - we're going back to the start and taking a look at The Twin Dilemma!

Infamously voted as the WORST Doctor Who story of all time on multiple occasions BUT...is it really as bad as those polls would tell you?

Is there more to enjoy in this serial than the preconceptions would have you believe?

Was the infamous moment between The Doctor and Peri a bad move - both within and outside of the show?

Should we have even approached this serial for review at all?!

You may be surprised by our take on it...

Plus, we hear from fellow Sixie fans including Lucy McCaul, Ian Banks, Gareth Bowley, Katie Hynes and Brandon Foley with their thoughts on the Doctor and his adventures!

And so begins a lot of love for this Doctor and his era!

  • Doctor Who - Spyfall Part 2 | REVIEWED!
    Aug 18 2024

Following that INCREDIBLE cliffhanger, we just had to return and review Spyfall Part 2 in this previously members-only episode!

In this epic adventure, things become darker for The Doctor and the Fam, but hope continues to shine as the characters and different strands of the adventure pull together to save the day.

We look at the overall story and some of the deeper plot elements within it, we discuss *that* Eiffel Tower scene, talk mindwipes, soft shoe shuffles, the destruction of Gallifrey, the perils of tissue compression and of course, Geoff gets in some Avatar talk as well... sorry!

(NB - he's not sorry at all! Paul)
