    Dr. Kennedy’s Bio:
    Kierstin Cates Kennedy, MD, MSHA is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Chief Medical Officer for UAB Medicine. A 1,207 bed quaternary hospital and academic health science center, UAB Hospital is the 8th largest hospital in the US and serves as the only ACS verified Level I Trauma Center in the state of Alabama.

    Dr. Kennedy graduated from the UAB Heersink School of Medicine in 2007 and completed her combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency training at UAB Hospital. She completed the Executive Master of Science in Health Administration program at UAB in 2011 and went on to complete a fellowship in quality improvement via the VA Quality Scholars Fellowship in Birmingham, AL. She has held numerous leadership roles in quality and operations, including medical director for the UAB Compliant Documentation Management Program, Director of Quality for Hospital Medicine, and Chief of Hospital Medicine with achievements in process redesign that have yielded sustained improvement in both quality and efficiency in care delivery. In 2014 she created the UAB Procedure Service which has celebrated nearly a decade of decreased time to procedure by more than 50% , a 93% procedure success rate and less than 0.2% complication rate. She also went on to create the UAB Comprehensive Vascular Access Team (CVAT), a multidisciplinary consult team designed to reduce delays in obtaining vascular access ranging from peripheral IVs to central venous catheters.

    Dr. Kennedy is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Board of Directors and both course director and faculty for the SHM Leadership Academy. She speaks nationally on leadership topics such as conflict resolution for leaders, emotional intelligence, building high performing teams and leveraging positive psychology to drive quality improvement, and teaches physicians and students across the United States how to safely perform ultrasound guided bedside procedures. She is a past winner of the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Dean’s Excellence Award for Service, the UAB Alumni Society Distinguished Alumni Award, the ACLGIM Unified Leadership Training in Diversity award, and the national Paul Batalden Award from the VA Quality Scholars program. She holds the designation of fellow with the American College of Physicians and senior fellow with the Society of Hospital Medicine.

Dr. Barmore is a proud alumna of Miles College, where her dreams of becoming a physician were nurtured. She went on to graduate from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completed her residency at St. Vincent’s East Family Medicine Residency. Dr. Barmore is the mother of Brooklyn Barmore and Marlon Barmore, II.

    DR. BOYD'S BIO:
    Dr. Shameza Boyd is a native of Birmingham, AL. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James and Lucy Boyd. Dr. Boyd is a product of Birmingham City Schools, where she served as her senior class president and graduated with honors from Huffman High School. After, graduating high school, she attended Xavier University of New Orleans, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.

    After graduating from Xavier University, Dr. Boyd continued to pursue her medical career. She attended the University of South Alabama located in Mobile, AL where she received her Doctor of Medicine degree and was the only African American female in her graduating class. After crossing that hurdle, she continued to pursue her dream and completed her Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Medical Center of Central Georgia located in Macon, GA. During her final year of residency, she was appointed and served as the program’s first African American Chief Resident.

    Dr. Boyd began her pediatric career in Mobile, AL, working at Franklin Primary Health Center, which was in an underserved area where many couldn’t afford healthcare. During her tenure here, she was named Chief of the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Boyd later returned to her hometown of Birmingham, AL where she worked for several years in a private practice. With hard work and determination in 2012, Dr. Boyd Dennis founded her own practice in Birmingham, AL known as Small Steps Pediatrics PC, located in St. Vincent’s East Professional Bldg. Her vision for Small Steps is to provide quality healthcare to ALL children. In 2014, to acknowledge the hard work of establishing her own practice, Dr. Boyd was awarded a 2014 Best in Minority Business Award.

    Dr. Boyd is a board-certified Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of several medical societies and organizations including American Academy of Pediatrics- AL chapter, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Jefferson County Medical Society, Mineral District Medical Society and Jefferson County Pediatric Medical Society, where she serves on the board. She is also a proud member of the Jefferson County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.

    Dr. Boyd is the wife of Mr. Mark Dennis. When she is not in the office, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and family.
