  • Bringing science to life for online students, especially those in introductory non-majors courses, is challenging. How do you make students feel comfortable yet engaged in laboratory experiences? It was this and other questions that brought Clifford Blizard, a lead instructor at the University of Arizona Global Campus, to Carolina Distance Learning. A long-time customer, Clifford came to me with the idea for a novel type of virtual lab. One that would simultaneously immerse students in a real, underappreciated ecosystem, and give them greater confidence with lab reports, graphing and the scientific method. With nothing like it on the market, I was all in with this collaboration which resulted in more successes than we ever anticipated.
