    KASI PHILOSOPHIES

This mix was curated by MakeMeDanceDj’s who are profound believers and admirers of the bright and shining talents that dwell all over South African townships, the Dj Duo are great envoys of Kasi swag and bravado, their style is consistently full of flare and flavour that strictly embodies well versed township boys that fully embrace South African culture, makemedance djs are a very distinct and awesomely unique duo and this is seen in the curation of their music mixes and their understanding of art, culture and fashion.

The breeding ground for astounding dreams and staggering ambitions, “ko kasi”, where champions are made and kings are ordained. Most people sit and wonder where and whom is solely responsible for the creative brilliance and dazzling inventions we’ve been blessed with throughout the years as South Africans, well a quick glance into our history will reveal that apartheid spatial planning created townships in order to disempower and suppress people of colour. Although many black people were marginalized and cast away the eminent and combative spirit that resides in us as a people has resulted in the birth of many great talents from these townships that have shaped the creative world in many ways more than one.

A message from MakeMeDance “I love the hood because of its architecture, its nostalgia and feel. I love the hood because of its full of colour, love and laughter. The sweet special ghetto, it is so warm and welcoming and unique. It screams representation for every single one of us 🇿🇦 The hood is a great space to learn, make mistakes and eat GREAT FOOD, listen to music and explore..”

  • Save Us
    Nov 5 2022

This mix was curated by Itu Ears who is a talented polokwane born and bred Dj who we first got introduced to by listening to his Rush Hour podcast mixes, and we’ve been such huge fans of his craft ever since, and we feel incredibly blessed to have him on Today’s episode (Save Us).

Save Us: What we have seen is no matter who you are, where you’re from and how old you are, we all have to face the negative thoughts that work against us . Sometimes the cause could be work, school, our relationships, past traumas, our different experiences or even just life itself being overwhelming. Such thoughts might cause self doubt, anxiety, depression, insecurities, imposter syndrome, fears, overthinking, and the list is endless.

With analysing such situations we do realise that sometimes our mind is a harsh place and even though we all have different coping mechanisms the one coping mechanism that we all seem to lean on is good music . It has the power to Save Us from all the negative thoughts we have working against us. It’s crazy how one good song, playlist or even album can turn your whole mood, your whole day around and that’s why I love when music Saves Us and compliments and makes any activity feel good, from chilling, taking a walk, jogging, a drive with your friends, washing the dishes, cleaning, working, working out, fucking, studying, or even just vibing out alone, music works as a beautiful escape from all the bullshit. So we hope you enjoy is escape.

  • Thrift Runners
    Nov 5 2022

This mix was curated by @sting_of_a_butterfly of DEADSTOCK COP, which is an authentic sneaker reselling store that was founded in 2021 by Zimba and Hafner. DEADSTOCK COP chose the Thrift Runners episode in order to curate this mix to show appreciation to all the Thrifter Runners that wake up in the early mornings to go thrifting & probing for the best vintage pieces within the deep parts of CBDs to make them more accessible to people that don’t know which areas are purely thrift territory . Uranus had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Jody; a thrift store owner, and get the chance to understand what it takes to be thrift runner as well as the challenges associated and this is what he had to say:

"The challenges we face include waking up early mornings around 5am in order to get the best pieces . If you wake up late you might not be able to get the good clothes and in regards to safely getting to the thrift market; it's always a struggle , almost as if it amounts to being in a jungle , from fighting to get in and finally brawling to get a glimpse of your favourite clothes , it's not very safe. What i love about thrifting is that you can get beautiful , quality clothes for a reasonable price evidently; I haven't went to a clothing store in like 4 years and yet i still have beautiful garments. What i love about what i do is that i can bring the merch to places like Hatfield or Braam saving my customers from going to the dodgy parts of Jozi CBD.....'

Being a sneaker reseller DSC understands the struggles of waking up early mornings, hopping on gautrains in only to wait in line for sneaker drops and the winning and losing of raffles, which is very much similar to thrift runners and is ultimately why this mix meant so much to the DSC family.

a message from DEADSTOCK COP "DSC is just a platform where the culture is embraced and appreciated. We aim to make art pieces that represent the authentic lifestyle inspired by the thrifting culture across the world. The DSC and Uranus family just wants to give the youth a platform to feel loved, inspired, motivated and free to express their feelings and emotions."

  • UWORLD
    Nov 5 2022

This mix was curated by Canvas sativa(Tlotlego Moses) a North west born and raised Dj, we were lucky to have Canvas sativa Dj at one of our paint and wines and that's when we immediately fucked with him. We choose Canvas for the UWORLD episode as we believe his mix embodies the the image of you being with your significant other just vibing out and indulging in each other's energies.

A message from Canvas Sativa: "I just want to contribute the culture in a way that's positive and music allows me to express myself, whether I'm just playing it or I'm making it so i wanted this mix to feel like an escape, like you’re on a trip but you don’t know where the destination is."
