  • Summary

  • Based on a number of readings and current debates that are ongoing , I have tried to get a summary , again using NotebookLLM to help make it accessible, of what's involved in University Rankings. Here I have presented a discussion on the issues surrounding university rankings, particularly global rankings such as QS, THE, and ARWU. I have tried to get the Podcast to explore the impact of the widespread use of rankings, but then delving into concerns about their methodology, reliability, and purpose. The podcast tries to be critical in its appraisal of the overemphasis on research output in many rankings, which can favor certain disciplines and institutions over others. It also discusses the growing commercialisation of rankings, which can create conflicts of interest and prioritise marketing over genuine improvement. Ultimately, I have tried to get the podcast to argue that rankings are not a reliable measure of institutional quality and that focusing solely on rankings can have negative consequences for universities and education systems.
